Home > About/History of RW Electric The successful family business was founded in 1967 by Roy Hodgson and his son Walter Hodgson. The company mainly focused on residential projects in the early years. As the company became more increasingly known throughout the Kingston and surrounding region. Roy and Walter later expanded into commercial projects which now accounts for a larger portion of its business. Today, R. W. Electric offers clients a wide range of services through its diverse operations. These including installation and maintenance of pole lines, submarine cables, outdoor/indoor lighting, underground locates, traffic & street lighting. This full service company also has bucket trucks, a backhoe, auger trucks and a mini excavator and two barges for island work. With our fleet of equipment and broad range of services we can walk in and complete projects from start to finish. By being able to do so many things ourselves, we can work at our schedule, with our own crew to meet our customers 'budget'. With over three decades of service under its belt, R. W. Electric has rightfully earned a loyal following of clientele who have come to rely on the company for its electrical expertise. By having an established name, the company generates a large percentage of repeat business from past clients who know the quality of work it does and the people who are doing the work for them. As well as working for individual clients, R. W. Electric also regularly works for other electrical contractors who require their specialty services. While Walter is thinking of retirement, he is still involved in the daily operations of the company. R. W. Electric is now in its third generation as he's joined by his son Bob and daughter Nancy. Now a partner in the business, Bob, like his father, is a hands-on owner who is personally involved in every project the company undertakes. Joining the company in 2001 is Doug Hodgson Walter's brother as the estimator. Like any solid contracting company, R. W. Electric employs a dedicated staff of 14 people who all play an important role in the success of the business and share the same commitment to quality and service as the owners. The team, which is very much an extended family, includes office staff and certified electricians who are experienced in broad spectrum of electrical applications. We're fortunate to have a lot of good employees that have been with us for quite a while. Most of our people have been with us for over five years and we have one that has been with us since day one who many of us actually apprenticed under. The long time Midland Avenue business has relocated to 2380 Hwy 38 to a larger shop-office complex after experiencing some space problems at its former location. The company's new location features over 6000 sq. ft. of shop and office space to better accommodate its equipment fleet and staff. Over the years, R. W. Electric has assembled an impressive resume of projects varying in size, scope and price. The business has installed and maintained traffic lights and signals at intersections from the Quebec border to Port Hope. Other projects include service installations for dozens of custom homes and the electrical maintenance of several commercial properties. We do a lot of business right here in the Kingston area but because of the specialty work we do, we tend to travel a fair bit for projects. Although the company has grown substantially since its early years, R. W. Electric's genuine commitment to providing clients with quality workmanship, prompt service and good value for their money has not. With its diverse line of services, industry experience and widespread knowledge of electrical applications, the company has the ability to complete a variety of installation and service projects.
